One of the more famous monsters (having appeared in several movies), the Vampire is a creature who exists somewhere between the living and the dead. By day, he rests peacefully in his coffin. By night he is transformed into a blood thirsty monster. He usually appears in his designer outfit with matching cape, but will sometimes disguise himself as a bat or a wolf when he sneaks into his victim's bedroom - usually that of a beautiful young woman - and with his long sharp fangs, gently bites her in the neck and sucks her blood. To scare a vampire off, you must use a cross, garlic or a slice of pepperoni pizza with anchovies!

Origin[]

The legend of vampires started in Medieval European folklore. They are portrayed as living corpses that sleep in coffins during the day and go out in search of human blood by night. Vampires look mostly human except for their pale skin and sharp fangs that they use to suck blood from victims. These creatures have immense strength, quick reflexes and lightning-fast speed. They can blend into shadows and ambush victims from darkness. Once in a while, vampires desire companionship. After biting a victim, the vampire can make the dying person drink a mouthful of its undead blood-which will instantly turn the victim into a new vampire.

Although vampires are immortal, there a several ways to kill one. One of the most common method of killing a vampire is to ram a wooden stake or silver cross into its heart. Another way is to splash it with holy water. Vampires cannot go out in sunlight; otherwise, the intense light will burn their bodies into ashes. Some vampires cannot enter a house unless they're invited. If they try to enter uninvited, they die.

The most famous vampire in history is Count Dracula (based on the cruel 15th century Romanian dictator, Vlad Dracula). He was created by Bram Stoker in 1897 for his book, Dracula. This ancient vampire lived alone in Transylvania, but moved to London to find new prey. Dracula's strongest desire was to be reunited with the spirit of his long lost wife, which he thought he found in the body of a woman named Mina.
