The myth of gremlins started in British Air Force in the early 20th century to originally explain malfunctions in aircraft, and later in other machinery, processes and operators. Most of the time, gremlins are mischievous pranksters who play harmless pranks like hiding car keys and sunglasses or replacing batteries in remote controls with melted cheese. Once in a while, however, a gremlin's tricks can turn dangerous. Many of the creatures specialize in car parts, and a joke can turn deadly if a gremlin has messed with a car's brakes or gas tank.
